Gretel Tippett has tonight been named the Lorna Jane Queensland Firebirds Player of the Year after what has been a sparkling year for the goal attack.
Tippett got away to a slow start on the tally board but brought it home strong to pip her goal circle partner Romelda Aiken in the final rounds of the competition storming home with 25 points in the final five rounds of the season. It is Tippett’s first Firebirds Player of the Year award.
To add to the official Player of the Year award, Tippett was also awarded the Members Player of the Year.
The 2018 Firebirds Players Player award went to Romelda Aiken, who like Tippett took her game to a new level in 2018 still improving and showing great versatility even in her tenth season with the club.
Laura Clemesha was awarded the 2018 Firebirds Spirit award for the second consecutive year.
Introduced in 2006 and decided by team management, the recipient shows passion and dedication while displaying a fantastic attitude and sense of fun within the team.
