Gabi Simpson has gone from strength to strength as a player and leader since being appointed the captain of the Lorna Jane Queensland Firebirds in the Suncorp Super Netball.
After a stellar inaugural season of the Suncorp Super Netball, and a breakout year in the green and gold – Gabi capped off a remarkable 2017 by being crowned the Liz Ellis Diamond award winner as Australia’s best netball player.
Testament to the respect she holds among her peers, Gabi was named vice-captain of the Australian Diamonds and played a pivotal role in claiming silver in the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
A dynamic character on court, her speed off the mark, strength and determination make her a fan favourite across the league and has inspired the next generation of wing defence.
Gabi led the Firebirds back into finals netball last season and will be determined to take her team all the way in 2019 after a heartbreaking one-point loss ended their 2018 campaign.
