Tara Hinchliffe Joins Australian Fast5 Team

Lorna Jane Queensland Firebirds defender Tara Hinchliffe has been called into the Australian Fast5 team to compete at this weekend’s Fast5 World Series.

Hinchliffe took a late flight to Melbourne last night and will join Firebirds teammate Kim Jenner in camp as Australia prepares to claim the World Series Title for the first time.

Hinchliffe was called in after Collingwood defender Matilda Garrett sustained a quad injury during training over the weekend.

“I was super surprised to get the call yesterday, I was ready for a normal week at home, so it was a sudden rush to pack and get ready,” Hinchliffe said.

“I’m very excited. It’s a great chance to wear the green and gold again.”

Tara was a member of the Australian U21 side that travelled to Botswana in 2017 to compete in the World Youth Cup. She will join the training camp today to prepare for the Fast5 format.

“Fast5 will be really quick and heaps of fun. I have a lot to learn this week, but I’m excited for the challenge ahead,” she said.

While Australian Fast5 team coach Stacey Marinkovich is disappointed to again lose one of her key players in Garrett, she’s confident Hinchliffe has what it takes to perform on the Fast5 world stage this weekend.

“I am excited to be working with Tara who has shown throughout the Suncorp Super Netball season that she is an upcoming talent who contests first ball and plays a shutdown role in defence whilst strategically reading the game with experience ahead of her years,” she said.

The final Australian Fast5 Netball World Series team is:

Jessica Anstiss – Western Australia

Kiera Austin – New South Wales

Laura Scherian – Queensland

Sophie Garbin – Western Australia

Tara Hinchliffe – Queensland

Kimberley Jenner – Queensland

Sarah Klau – South Australia

Maddy Proud – South Australia

Samantha Poolman – New South Wales

Kaylia Stanton – Western Australia

The Fast5 Netball World Series is taking place in Melbourne for the third and final time this weekend, October 27 and 28.

Tickets for the Fast5 Netball World Series are still available from ticketek.com.au

Tune in on Saturday and Sunday to catch all the action.
