Defender Ash Barnett returns to the Queensland Firebirds as a training partner for 2027, bringing valuable experience from a season with the Mainland Tactix in New Zealand’s ANZ Premiership.
The 188cm goalkeeper made 11 appearances as a contracted Firebird during her maiden Super Netball campaign in 2025, impressing with her physicality, competitiveness and timing in the circle.
A former Firebirds Futures captain, Barnett progressed through the Queensland pathway system and represented the state at 19U level before earning her place on the Firebirds’ senior roster.
Her time in New Zealand exposed her to a different style of competition and further developed her ability to read the play. Barnett returns to Brisbane as a more complete defender and adds valuable depth and intensity to the Firebirds’ defensive unit.
