Athletic young defender Gemma Hutchings joins the Queensland Firebirds as a training partner for 2027, earning her opportunity after an impressive rise through the state and national pathways.
A former junior track-and-field athlete, Hutchings possesses an exceptional leap and attacks the ball fearlessly in the air. She helped Australia win Fast5 gold at the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago and has represented Queensland at both 17U and 19U level.
A regular for the Kedron-Wavell Cougars in the HART Premier Netball League, Hutchings earned MVP honours for the Firebirds Futures during the 2026 Super Netball Reserves competition.
She was also selected in the Australian National Pathway Squad for the 2026 Ocean of Power Tour in Samoa and will continue her development alongside the Firebirds’ senior defenders.
