A two-time Laura Geitz Medallist, Bakewell-Doran's consistency has been remarkable, playing 72 consecutive matches for the Firebirds stretching back to Round 13 of the 2021 season, taking her overall tally to 73 appearances in the Purple dress.
That durability sits alongside a genuine story of resilience. Having overcome a significant ACL injury in her teens, Bakewell-Doran went on to debut for Australia in 2022 as Diamond No.188.
Off the court, Firebird No.103 enters 2027 with plenty to celebrate, having married long-time partner Jake during the off-season.
“I can't wait to be back at the club for the ‘27 season,” Bakewell-Doran said.
“We've built a lot of core foundational work over the last two years with Kiri - and as a playing group - and there is something here that's just needed a little bit more time to hone in order for us to really thrive and get wins on the board for this club.
“So I feel determined to see that happen. I love this club, I love our fans and I love my teammates - I can't wait!”
Firebirds Head Coach Kiri Wills said retaining Bakewell-Doran was a key part of her plans for 2027.
"Ruby leads from the front every single session and holds the standard for everyone around her, and she does it with real humility and strength,” Will said.
“Her journey - from overcoming a serious injury as a teenager to captaining the club she grow up idolising and being an Australian Diamond - says everything about her character.
“We're so proud of the player and person she's become, and we're thrilled to have her back again in 2027.
“Ruby’s capacity for work is next level. She goes out to win every moment in every training session because she knows that’s how we need to play to win."
