The 188cm goalkeeper first made her mark for the Firebirds as a contracted player in 2025, making 11 appearances in a solid maiden Super Netball campaign that showcased her physicality and timing in the circle.
A former Firebirds Futures captain, Barnett came through the Queensland pathway system, representing the state's 19 and Under squad in 2021 before working her way onto the senior list.
Her time across the Tasman with the Tactix has added further nuance to her defensive game, exposing her to a different style of competition and sharpening her reading of the play.
“I’m really excited to be heading back to the Firebirds for 2027,” Barnett said.
“Brisbane feels like home, so I’m really grateful for the opportunity to return and be part of the club again.
“My time with the Tactix has given me a lot of growth and a different perspective on the game, and I’m looking forward to bringing that experience back to Brisbane, continuing to develop and contributing to the team.”
Firebirds Head Coach Kiri Wills said Barnett's return strengthened the club's options in defence.
“Ash comes back to us a more complete defender than when she left,” Wills said.
“Her time in New Zealand has given her a broader perspective on the game, and combined with her height and competitiveness, she's going to make life difficult for our shooters at training every day.
“We are lucky to have a player of Ash’s quality as a training partner.”
