Barnett recorded a game-high six gains as well as two intercepts and four rebounds but it was the Fury who posted a 67-57 win at the Morayfield Sports and Events Centre on Wednesday.
The loss is the Firebirds Futures’ first of the championships after posting an impressive 60-56 win over West Coast Fever Reserves on Monday.
On Wednesday, the Firebirds Futures found themselves chasing for most of the match with the Fury winning the first three quarters to have an 11-point advantage heading into the final term.
Firebirds Futures coach Jess Whitfort used her bench across the match with all 12 players getting on the court at some point, including goal shooter Olivia Dijkstra, whose goal on the fulltime siren ensured Whitfort’s team won the final quarter 14-13.
As well as Barnett, captain Leesa Mi Mi had an impressive game for the Firebirds Futures with 22 goal assists and 30 feeds while Abigail Meafou was the top scorer with 22 goals from 24 attempts, closely followed by Elsa Sif Sandholt’s 21 goals from 24 attempts.
Maddi Ridley snared three intercepts during her 35 minutes on court while Rylee Burns made good impact off the bench with nine goals from 10 attempts as well as eight goal assists and 20 centre pass receives.
Defeat leaves the Firebirds Futures fourth in Pool B, two points behind Fever Reserves and Fury with both those teams having played a game more.
Firebirds Futures return to the court on Thursday against the Swifts Academy at 1pm.
Earlier on Thursday, Firebirds Futures training partner Jess Milne played a full game at goalkeeper for the Capital Darters as they were beaten 66-47 by the Giants Netballl Academy 66-47.
Milne, playing as an injury replacement for the Darters, ended the game with two gains, five deflections and two rebounds.
