Like the proud club we are, everyone is looking forward to getting out there on Saturday and turning things around after last week’s loss.
A number of factors contributed to the loss and everyone is bitterly disappointed in their performances.
We’ve had a good look at our game, our mindset, our processes, and we’ve had good honest discussions and a great training week.
The next game is as good as any when wanting to bounce back.
Whatever it takes, against whoever the opponent is the view we have. We need to be able to beat anyone. The match-up against the Swifts is always a good battle.
They’re an extremely smart, fast and fit team who have been playing together for a good few years now.
They’re well drilled, so we’ll need to be on top of our game to match them. But the players are willing and ready for the battle.
The players know that every game is important, and that it’s important to be switched on for every match.
The focus isn’t different whoever we play, we back ourselves to win every game if we execute our game plan well.
While our focus is purely on the game ahead, I would like to say a few words about Jemma Mi Mi who played her 50th game last week – such an impressive milestone.
Jem is such a lovely woman and I’ve loved coaching her the past 18 months.
I’m in awe of her skills on the court, her silky smooth moves, incredible speed and ability to find space anywhere on the court make her hard to stop.
I hope she continues to dazzle the netballing community with her abilities for years to come.
Making Saturday’s match even more exciting is our theme for the round – State v State.
The Firebirds Swifts rivalry obviously goes back a long way...25 years really.
But was definitely reignited during those epic Grand Finals in 2015 and 2016, those games are remembered as some of the best netball games ever to be played.
Coming from NSW, I’m a Blues fan when it comes to Rugby League, but I definitely have a purple heart. I jokingly say that I love purple but not maroon.
I was making a video of the 2015/2016 Grand Finals in pre-season and even though I was with the Swifts as a coach during those games, watching them back my thoughts were only with the Firebirds and re-creating that winning culture.
So let’s go Birdies!
