Our record home crowd last week was the greatest I’ve ever heard at Nissan Arena, and that’s saying something, so we’re hoping we feel all that noise through the Foxtel and Kayo broadcast this week as we touch down in Sydney for our last regular round game of the season.
Finals chances are out of our hands, with the only controllable being our ability to play well enough to defeat the NSW Swifts on Sunday afternoon.
We’re upbeat and looking forward to this crucial clash following last weekend’s one-point loss to Giants Netball, which was an epic game but obviously didn’t end the way we wanted it to.
So we’re sitting equal fifth on the Suncorp Super Netball ladder and really just taking each moment as it comes, executing game plans in training and doing all we can to give our best in whatever capacity that may be.
Moments like these don’t come along every day. Crunch games like what we’ll experience on Sunday are why we pour our energy into doing the hard yards for months on end, which is also why we’re taking it on this week and enjoying everything along the way.
The Swifts have a very open style of play. They can be super quick in attack but also very clinical and safe so we’ll need to suffocate them defensively and force them into making errors.
They have a tall, strong and mobile defensive unit so we need strong leads and good decision-making on passing.
However the key lies in our rebounding as the Swifts offer little turnover opportunity so we need to force missed shots to gain greater possession.
You’ll be able to feel the intensity and drive from all 14 players on court so expect a great spectacle of world-class netball.
Captain Kim Ravaillion will be leading our team out on court, as she has brilliantly done all season, after recovering from a slight ankle niggle last weekend.
You, our fans, may not be at Ken Rosewall Arena in person but we’ve felt your support from afar all season so thank you for being the best supporters in the competition.
Go birdies!
