The Firebirds spirit prevailed in a thrilling draw last weekend. It was an exciting game that went down to the wire and we saw plenty of heart, soul and fire from your ‘Birdies.
Coach Roselee was really pleased with improvements the team made last week and how they looked after the ball. They converted the turnovers they won into goals and threw away fewer balls than the previous games this season. Their structure, timing and leads were a lot better, and connection throughout the court, from the defence to the attack, has really improved.
And this week we are expecting to see a super Queensland Week contest against our traditional state rivals, the NSW Swifts.
The team are inspired by the mighty Maroons win over NSW in the State Of Origin on Wednesday night and our inside tips are the team are primed to be unpredictable and will debut some more new game plans no one has seen before.
Couple that with two exciting new players taking the court in the South African combination of goal shooter Lenize Potgieter making her Firebirds debut (replacing Tippah Dwan) and centre Erin Burger making a return to the team for injured centre Mahalia Cassidy, you should expect the unexpected on Sunday. Erin is no stranger to the Birdies, having last played for the Firebirds in 2017 when she was brought in to replace Mahalia during her last knee surgery and recovery.
