The 58-year-old Australian joins the Firebirds fresh from a highly successful stint as an assistant coach with the Northern Mystics in New Zealand's ANZ Premiership, where he has been part of four championship-winning campaigns across six seasons - a remarkable record that speaks to both his tactical nous and his ability to help build winning environments.
Wright's coaching career spans decades and continents.
In Australia, he has held significant roles at multiple clubs, including the NSW Swifts and the Collingwood Magpies - making history as the first male head coach in the trans-Tasman ANZ Championship, leading the Swifts to consecutive grand final appearances in 2015 and 2016.
His international pedigree is equally formidable.
Serving as defensive specialist for Jamaica since 2022, Wright's tenure has coincided with the emergence of the Sunshine Girls' outstanding defensive quartet of Shamera Sterling, Kadie-Ann Dehaney, Jodi-Ann Ward and Latanya Wilson.
He was also part of the Jamaican coaching staff this year as the Sunshine Girls secured a historic silver medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, defeating the Australian Diamonds on their way to the final.
