The Queensland Firebirds are delighted to be named as a finalist for Sport Event of the Year at the prestigious Queensland Sport Awards.
We will contend for the title after hosting consecutive Suncorp Super Netball league finals series in Queensland for 2020 and 2021 – with both grand finals being played at Brisbane’s Nissan Arena.
This exciting announcement follows a joint nomination with the Sunshine Coast Lightning, with the club also playing a pivotal role in Queensland hosting the SSN hub for the past two seasons.
Queensland Firebirds CEO, Catherine Clark, said it was well-deserved recognition for all involved.
“Being nominated as a finalist in the Queensland Sport Awards is always a great honour,” Clark said.
“Everyone at the Queensland Firebirds and Nissan Arena sacrificed an incredible amount and worked tirelessly during the 2020 and 2021 Suncorp Super Netball league seasons, so for them to be recognised for their exceptional contribution is very pleasing.
“Submitting a joint application with the Sunshine Coast Lightning also highlights how much we can all achieve when we work together to grow our great game of netball in Queensland and beyond.”
All awards winners will be announced at this year’s 26th annual Queensland Sport Awards.
The event will be held on Thursday 25 November in the Plaza Ballroom at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
