With co-coaches Katie Walker and Roselee Jencke at the helm for the first time, the Firebirds were outstanding against the second-placed Fever with Donnell Wallam scoring 66 points including an amazing nine Suncorp Super Shots.
Filling in as on-court captain for the injured Kim Ravaillion for a fourth-straight week, Lara Dunkley led the way with a superb midcourt display recording 23 goal assists and 35 feeds as well as two gains.
Midcourt partner Macy Gardner also stood tall, recording 13 goal assists and 25 feeds before having to come off late in the game for a Head Injury Assessment before returning to the bench to celebrate the closing moments of the win.
Tippah Dwan was also worthy of a mention, providing a moving target at goal attack with 11 goals including one Suncorp Super Shot, 16 goal assists, 23 feeds, a deflection and a rebound.
It was also a memorable match for young defender Isabelle Shearer who started at SSN level for the first time and played the entire match against Fever superstar Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard.
Down by five points late in the first quarter, a remarkable charge in the closing minute ensured the Firebirds went in 20-all with the visitors.
Wallam hit four two-pointers in the opening quarter including a thrilling buzzer-beater to lock up the score and have Nissan Arena rocking.
The tight contest continued in the second quarter, both teams trading blows but unable to get an edge.
Fowler-Nembhard and Wallam traded Super Shots but the Firebirds again came home with a wet sail.
Dwan nailed her only two-pointer of the night with 30 seconds remaining to put the Firebirds a goal up and after Fowler had levelled, Wallam again found the net from range right on the siren to ensure the hosts were up by two at the main break.
It was all Firebirds in the third term with Wallam again leading the way.
The hosts extended their lead to six points before the Fever rallied to have the scores level going into the Power Five but more Suncorp Super Shots by Wallam ensured the lead was back to six points at the final break.
It could have been even more with Wallam again trying to beat the buzzer but her catch and shoot effort as the buzzer sounded was ruled out with one of her feet having been over the baseline.
The Fever closed within four in the final quarter but the Firebirds were not to be denied, scoring the last eight points of the match to claim a much-needed win just six weeks after falling to the same opponent in Perth by 36 points.
The Firebirds will look to make it back-to-back wins next weekend when they travel to Sydney to face traditional rivals the NSW Swifts at Ken Rosewall Arena in their final away match of the 2024 season.
