The Firebirds will host back-to-back premiers Adelaide Thunderbirds on Wednesday at Nissan Arena in the final practice match before next weekend's Suncorp Super Netball season opener against GIANTS Netball on April 6.
Veve said spirits were high for the game after recording steady improvement across the Suncorp Team Girls Cup, where the Firebirds went winless but made significant progress across their four matches at Netball SA Stadium.
"The vibes are still high, because I know everyone knows that wasn't our best netball, but the positives were we did grow over the tournament," the midcourter said.
"The margin got smaller with our losses, so I think that's a good sign for us take that into our pre-season game against Adelaide coming up, and then hopefully into
round one."
Wednesday's game will feature a host of exciting match-ups including a potential battle between Firebirds shooter Mary Cholhok and Thunderbirds defensive star Shamera Sterling-Humphrey.
Having only flown into Brisbane in the middle of February, Veve said Ugandan import Cholhok will only be better for her experience on court at the Team Girls Cup along with English international midcourter Imogen Allison.
"The connections are definitely building," Veve said.
"It's only being a month so still building those connections and those two have fit in so well off the court, now it's just about getting it on the court."
Adelaide will also bring a new face north with young South African defender Sanmarie Visser named as a replacement player for injured shooter and former Firebird Romelda Aiken-George (knee).
Having taken out the Suncorp Team Girls Cup on home soil, Adelaide head into 2025 chasing an unprecedented three-peat and Veve was relishing the prospect of getting a real feel for where the Firebirds are at from their last pre-season appearance.
"They're an incredible team - back-to-back champions," Veve said.
"They've got an incredible defensive end.
"So it's definitely a tough matchup for us, but I think we can definitely give it to them. Hopefully we can go out there and smash it on Wednesday."
Wednesday's match is a members' exclusive event and will be livestreamed on the Firebirds YouTube channel.
The Firebirds first home Suncorp Super Netball match is on April 12 against West Coast Fever. Tickets for all seven Firebirds home games are available now via Ticketek.
