The Queensland Firebirds will remain in Melbourne for yet another week, before heading to Perth to play West Coast Fever on Saturday, not Collingwood in Brisbane as originally scheduled.
On Sunday evening the Suncorp Super Netball league locked in the round 11 fixture, in what it said was a move to ‘ensure all eight clubs can play as many home games as possible’.
By the league swapping round 11 and round 14 – it is hoped the Queensland Firebirds will be able to host its final two matches at home in Queensland.
Netball Australia CEO Kelly Ryan said the league was pleased to lock in another blockbuster round of netball.
“We are continuing to work with state governments and health authorities to protect the season and ensure that all eight clubs play as many home games as possible,” Ryan said.
“We will continue to monitor the health advice and update the fixture on a weekly basis. We are determined to make the season as fair as possible for the teams and give our fans every opportunity to watch live netball.”
The Victorian Government announced this week that Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast have been downgraded from red to orange zones.
After returning home on Sunday, the Sunshine Coast Lighting is set to play at USC Stadium in front of a home crowd for the first time in three weeks on Saturday.
Due to the unpredictable nature of Australia’s COVID-19 situation, the league is understandably taking the one-week-at-a-time approach to fixturing.
As further decisions are made by Netball Australia, the Queensland Firebirds will discuss all options and provide full updates when possible.
Until then we would like to thank our incredibly supportive and understanding partners, members, and fans for their cooperation and patience during this challenging time.
