What a privilege it is to support such an amazing netball team, our Queensland Firebirds. There is no better place to be on game day than at the sold out Nissan Arena, sitting amongst a sea of purple. The roar from the crowd as Gabi leads our team onto the court is something that gets every fan’s blood pumping. The game day atmosphere is electric, the players are pumped & the netball action is outstanding.
Gosh, I’ve missed our Suncorp Super Netball this year. Netball brings people together. Game day for me means going to the game with 5 of my favourite family & friends. We live and breathe netball. We all sit together. It’s the best couple of hours of our week.
Then there is all the other friends that we know who are at the stadium as well. We catch up, talk all things netball of course, then settle into our seats & get pumped for some great netball action. Up go the social media posts, we have to let the whole world know that there’s no better place to be than courtside, cheering on our Firebirds. Even the away games see us all gathering at my place, TV on, wearing all our purple and cheering on our beloved Birdies. That’s what I love most about netball, being with family and friends.
We can’t wait for the 2020 season to start. The team is back training together and 1st August can’t come quick enough. Doesn’t our team lineup look outstanding too? We finished the 2019 season very strong so let’s hope we can bring that momentum into this year. Gretel & Romelda bring so much excitement to the shooting circle. Jemma’s speed in the midcourt is always thrilling & how great will it be to have the skills & experience of Mahalia back on court at some stage? The combination of Tara & Kim developed into a very tough defensive force last year. Combined with the brilliance of Gabi, I can’t wait to see what these 3 can bring to the court this year in defence. I’m also super excited to welcome our new Birdies too. Lara, Rudi, Ine-Mari & Macy are all outstanding players and I know that they will all be working hard in preseason training. I can’t wait to see what they bring to our team.
The 2019 season was a hard slog for the Firebirds. So many close games but their determination & “never say die” attitude is why we love them so much. Every match was still very exciting to watch and us fans were with them all the way, cheering them on. What outstanding role models they are for all our grass roots young players.
I have a great feeling about the 2020 season though. We are hungry for our first win at Nissan Arena and I know that we will get that this year. We are counting down the days.
BRING IT ON
