The Purple Family’s regional supporter base are set for a pre-season party as the Queensland Firebirds prepare to visit some of their most passionate fans from across the State next month.
The Queensland Firebirds’ Regional Tour, powered by Suncorp, will see members of the 2021 squad travel to seven separate locations around Queensland form April 17-18.
The tour will provide fans in Mount Isa, Biloela, Herbert River, Townsville, Gladstone, Highfields and Warwick with a chance to welcome the Firebirds to their respective towns just a fortnight out from the start of the Suncorp Super Netball season.
Queensland Firebirds Head Coach, Megan Anderson, believes the tour will provide her side with added incentive on the eve of the season.
“The Firebirds have proudly represented Queensland in netball’s national leagues for 25 years now and it’s important to acknowledge the passion, loyalty and contribution of our Purple Family all across the State,” Anderson said.
“We love the fact that regardless of whether they are in Brisbane or Biloela, the Gold Coast or Gladstone, Mackay or Mount Isa or Townsville or Toowoomba, our fans are united in Purple – we are Queensland’s team and we play for all of Queensland.”
“The girls are really looking forward to visiting our fans in each of these regions and thanking them for their ongoing support as we head into another exciting season.”
The trip will be extra special for Queensland Firebirds and Australian Diamonds defender Kim Jenner, who will have the opportunity to travel home to Townsville.
Jenner said the tour, powered by Suncorp, will no doubt leave an impression on many young Firebirds fans.
“I can’t wait to go home and spend some time in my local netball community,” Jenner said.
“Trips like these have such an important influence on young girls in regional Queensland, helping to strengthen their love for the game and reinforce that their dreams of playing at the top level are certainly achievable.”
The Queensland Firebirds Regional Tour, powered by Suncorp, will incorporate a series of community events in each location, including clinics run by the players.
