The 76-35 win at Morayfield Sports and Events Centre on Friday means the Firebirds Futures finish third on percentage in Pool B with three wins and just one defeat from their four matches.
The Firebirds Futures now face local rivals Sunshine Coast Lightning Bolts in Saturday’s semi-finals for a place in Sunday’s fifth-place playoff at 1pm.
West Coast Fever Reserves’ win over Victorian Fury earlier on Friday left the Firebirds knowing they needed a huge victory to lift their percentage enough to get them into the medal semi-finals.
Despite posting their highest score of the tournament so far and winning all four quarters, the final margin wasn’t enough to overcome both the Fever and Swifts Academy’s superior percentages.
Friday’s win was once more a team affair with Head Coach Jess Whitfort rotating players throughout the match as she utilised all 12 players at her disposal.
Isabelle Shearer was the only player to complete 60 minutes, the Queensland Firebirds’ training partner securing five gains, two intercepts and six deflections in defence.
Elsa Sif Sandholt was the leading scorer for the Firebirds with 31 goals from 35 attempts but scoring was shared around with Olivia Dijkstra scoring 20 from 21, Abigail Meafou 15 from 16, Annie Lawrie six from 12 and Rylee Burns four from seven.
Lawrie also had 17 goal assists, four gains and three intercepts in a busy display at goal attack.
The loser of Saturday's clash between the Firebirds and Lightning Bolts will feature in Sunday’s seventh-place playoff.
