Brown, who played for the Firebirds from 2004 to 2012, will work alongside Head Coach Bec Bulley after joining the club in March for the 2023 campaign.
The 41-year-old joins a backroom team at the Firebirds that has been bolstered by the appointments of Kelly Penfold as Head of Strength and Conditioning and Talia Yarden as Head Physiotherapist.
Brown, captain of the Firebirds 2011 championship-winning team and capped 25 times by Australia, said the off-court appointments had her feeling optimistic for the season ahead.
“I’m really excited to be back working with Bec and the exceptional ‘team behind the team’ that she has put together for 2024,” Brown said.
“It’s an honour to be involved with a club I value so much and provide any expertise I can to ensure we build and have a great season with wins on the board.”
Penfold was named Coach of the Year at the Australian Strength and Conditioning Association awards on the Gold Coast recently and joins the Firebirds having worked in a variety of sports as a Strength and Conditioning Coach at the Queensland Academy of Sport.
Yarden has been working with the Firebirds in a physio role since 2021 and joins on a fulltime basis after also working with the Brisbane Lions AFLW team and in rugby league, touch football and rugby union.
“I couldn’t be happier to have Lauren coming back as my assistant for 2024,” Bulley said.
“Lauren obviously has a strong connection to the history of the club but has proven herself as an excellent coach and mentor who is a valued contributor to my coaching plans.
“It’s also exciting to have Talia and Kelly join our staff, both are highly credentialed and experienced in elite sports and will play key roles in ensuring our team is fit and firing for the entire season.”
