A dynamic world-class midcourter who has made 29 appearances for the Silver Ferns, 25-year-old Gordon joins the club after seven seasons with Te Wananga o Raukawa Pulse in New Zealand’s ANZ Premiership.
During her time in the Pulse, Gordon won three ANZ Premiership titles (2019, 2020 and 2022) and was MVP of the Pulse’s 2020 Grand Final win.
The 25-year-old’s 2023 form led to her being named ANZ Premiership Player of the Year that season and earning selection for the Silver Ferns World Cup squad.
The Firebirds are also thankful to Netball New Zealand for granting Gordon an exemption to represent her country in 2026, allowing her the opportunity to grow her game while also continuing to play for the Silver Ferns.
Firebirds Head Coach Kiri Wills welcomed the arrival of Gordon, who is able to perform at either wing attack or centre.
“Maddy possesses a fantastic engine and brings a mix of pace and skill which has been proven at the highest levels internationally,” Wills said.
“Whether it is feeding our attack or providing disruption and hunting in defence, Maddy will be a great addition to our team for the 2026 season.”
Gordon debuted for the Silver Ferns in 2021 against Australia and is eager to showcase her skills for the Firebirds at SSN level.
“I’m completely fired up and excited to be joining the Queensland Firebirds,” Gordon said.
“Ready to bring energy, determination, and a dash of Kiwi flair to every training session and match.
“To all my Pulse supporters, thank you so much for your unwavering support over the past seven years. You’ve made Wellington my home, and I’ve loved every single minute. It’s time for a new challenge and a fresh chapter, but please know that this club and your support will always stay with me.
“I’m also hugely thankful to Netball New Zealand to continue representing the black dress while allowing me to grow my game in Australia.”
The Firebirds will share with members and fans an announcement on their final 2026 squad member in coming days.
