The Queensland Firebirds are out to replicate the finesse of last week’s triumphant win against the Lightning as they take on the West Coast Fever on Sunday at the Queensland home of netball, Nissan Arena.
The Queensland team breathed new life into the season with a determined display last week and are hunting another win this week against front-runners the West Coast Fever.
Queensland Firebirds CEO, Catherine Clark, said last week’s win really showed the depth of the talent in the Firebirds team and the resolute spirit that defines being a Firebird.
“Our team were tenacious, both for the ball and in spirit last week. We were really proud of the work they put in during the week – their focus was formidable”, Clark said.
“Kim Ravaillion won player of the match for her dynamic game and has stamped her name on the Suncorp Super Netball Season in the past six games with over 100 assists and 20 general play turnovers.”
“We’ll be in for a spectacular game this weekend. Get in quick if you’re keen to watch our Firebirds live – we’re expecting a sell-out match against the Fever.”
Megan Anderson, Head Coach said she was proud of how the team stuck to their game plan last week and that she was looking forward to a great game against the Fever.
“Coming into last week’s game we looked at the small improvements we could make that would help us maintain calm across the court during pivotal moments and secure the win, Anderson said.”
“We’ll be focused on getting a good start, putting pressure on early and being definitive with our movement to outsmart the defenders this weekend.”
The Firebirds are chasing a top 4 finish this season and are currently placed fifth on the Suncorp Super Netball ladder. Fever have won all 6 of their games this season but with a 12-point deduction courtesy of historical salary cap violations are currently fourth on the Suncorp Super Netball ladder.
The Firebirds will play their seventh game of the season against West Coast Fever at Nissan Arena on Sunday, June 13 at 1pm. Viewers can also watch the game on Channel 9, the Netball Live App or on Telstra TV.
