The Queensland Firebirds are confident of producing an impressive performance as they fly into Sunday’s round 9 match with the GIANTS full of enthusiasm.
It has been a roller-coaster ride for the Queensland Firebirds this week, starting with a last-minute flight to Melbourne on Tuesday night following the Suncorp Super Netball League’s decision to move matches to Melbourne.
The Queensland Firebirds were set to host the GIANTS in front of a home crowd at Nissan Arena, but will now go head-to-head in a closed match at Melbourne’s John Cain Arena at 5pm.
Queensland Firebirds CEO, Catherine Clark, said it was hard to find words fitting for what she has seen from the purple family this week.
“We are all immensely proud of the way in which our players and staff have conducted themselves during a week of uncertainty and upheaval”, Clark said.
“Like many others across the league, our people have had to make sacrifices both personally and professionally to ensure this round goes ahead. And they did it with no fuss.”
“To our members, fans and corporate partners who will miss out on a home game this weekend, we thank you for your understanding and your continued support. It is huge. It is at these moments we all feel what sport is truly about. The belonging to something that gets us through all kinds of adversity.”
Megan Anderson, Head Coach said the players have treated the lead up to this match as normal and have looked impressive in preparation.
“It is important to stay tight as a group, concentrate on what we can control and be ready to play whenever, wherever and whomever, Anderson said.”
“We have worked hard over the bye week to address what has been letting us down and I’m confident we can bring the same passion, commitment and flair that saw us beat the Lightning a couple of weeks ago.”
“We have regularly used all 10 players and continue to utilise players based on working to our strengths and on court match ups. This week we want to reward our amazing fans this week with a complete 60-minute performance. And we will be able to feel their support all the way from Queensland.”
The Firebirds will battle it out against the GIANTS at John Cain Arena on Sunday, July 4 at 5pm. Viewers can also watch the game on the Netball Live App or on Telstra TV.
