With defender Ruby Bakewell-Doran shining at the back in a player of the match display, the Firebirds were never headed by the reigning premiers to snap a five-game losing streak in front of a bumper 4500 crowd at Nissan Arena with the 52-42 win.
Bakewell-Doran, with Australian Diamonds selectors watching on from the stands, picked up 106 Nissan Net Points on her way to recording five gains, two intercepts and seven deflections in all action performance.
She was ably supported at the back by Remi Kamo, who notched seven gains, two intercepts and four deflections of her own.
Firebirds Head Coach sprung a surprise before the game, starting Emily Moore at goal attack but the switch paid instant dividends as Moore combined well with Donnell Wallam to ensure the hosts had a seven point lead at halftime.
Moore, who made way for Tippah Dwan in the third quarter, finished the game with 10 goals from 12 attempts and 11 goal assists.
Wallam scored 35 goals including a second-quarter Suncorp Super Shot while Dwan made an impact off the bench against her former team with six goals from seven attempts and five goal assists.
There was also time for Gold Coast product Jess Milne to make her Suncorp Super Netball debut, the 23-year-old coming off the bench in the final quarter to become Firebird No.111.
The Firebirds head back on the road next weekend, taking on Giants Netball at Ken Rosewall Arena on Sunday, 9 June from 4pm.
