The club would like to thank both players for their service and achievements in the purple dress and wishes them all the best for the future.
“On behalf of the Queensland Firebirds, I’d like to sincerely thank Donnell and Remi for their contribution to the club, and for providing many memorable moments for our fans,” Netball Queensland and Queensland Firebirds Chief Executive Kate Davies said.
Wallam became Firebird No.105 after debuting for the club in 2022 and has established herself as a big name in the sport across three seasons, during which she has scored 1744 goals.
The proud Noongar woman was named the 2023 NAIDOC Sportsperson of the Year after her breakout debut season, which ended with an unforgettable match-winning debut for the Australian Diamonds against England.
As well as her impact on the court, and together with a commitment from all of the Queensland Firebirds athletes, Wallam has played a key role in integrating First Nations culture and rituals into the everyday practices of the Firebirds club culture which will endure.
“There is no doubt Donnell is a quality player and her Diamonds selection for 2024 supports that,” Davies said.
“This is simply a recruitment decision based on game style and strategy into the future and I know Donnell will continue to shine wherever her future lies.”
Kamo’s debut came 12 months after Wallam, becoming Firebird No.106 in the 2023 season opener against Adelaide.
Across two seasons with the Firebirds, Kamo made 27 appearances in the purple dress reforming a defensive partnership with Ruby Bakewell-Doran that had been forged in the HART Sapphire Series. Kamo was a nominee for Rookie of the Year at the 2023 Australian Netball Awards.
“Remi has grown in her second year of SSN and been impactful on the court. The Firebirds are seeking to reset their defensive strategy over the coming seasons and this decision is a part of that reset,” Davies said.
The club will share with members and fans announcements on new signings after 5 August when Netball Australia’s external contracting window opens, and any binding contract discussions with players outside the club can commence.
