The Vixens' consistency overcame exciting glimpses by a new-look Firebirds line-up featuring Kiwi debutantes Maddy Gordon, Te Paea Selby-Rickit and Kelly Jackson as the visitors claimed a 60-49 triumph.
Gordon, Jackson and Selby-Rickit became Firebirds numbers 119, 120 and 121 respectively as all three recruits started the game with the Firebirds pushing the Vixens all the way in the opening term.
A great piece of desperation to win possession by Imogen Allison gave the Firebirds the ball in the dying seconds of the opening term but the hosts couldn't get it into the goal square before the siren, ensuring the Vixens had a one-goal advantage at the first break.
A fast start by the Vixens in the second quarter extended their margin to five goals and the Firebirds were unable to cut down that gap by the halftime break.
Firebirds captain Ruby Bakewell-Doran set the tone for the second half with an intercept off the opening centre pass of the third quarter but despite putting up a fierce fight against the Vixens, the Firebirds just couldn't close that gap.
Emily Moore hit the court in the Power Five and back-to-back Suncorp Super Shots had the Nissan Arena crowd jumping but a two-pointer right on three-quarter time by Kiera Austin allowed the Vixens to head into the final quarter with a six-point lead.
Moore hit two more two-pointers in the final term but the consistency of the Vixens, who scored 15 goals in each of the four quarters, told in the end as they ran out 11-point winners.
Mary Cholhok finished as the top scorer for the Firebirds with 35 points including one Suncorp Super Shot while Silver Ferns duo Gordon and Jackson were particularly impressive on debut.
The Firebirds head up the Bruce Highway next weekend for a Queensland Cup derby clash with the Sunshine Coast Lightning at UniSC Arena on Saturday, March 21.
