The announcement comes as the Futures prepare to launch their campaign against the Melbourne Mavericks on Sunday at Nissan Arena from 4.15pm.
Firebirds Futures Head Coach Paula Stuart said the co-captaincy duo were outstanding choices to lead the squad.
"Lily Gribble and Sasha Flegler have consistently demonstrated our core values, making them outstanding choices as captains of the Firebirds Futures," Stuart said.
"Both athletes are no strangers to the Firebirds environment and understand the standards, expectations and professionalism required to represent the program.
"Together, Lily and Sasha’s leadership provides stability, direction and inspiration, making them the right fit to guide the Futures team both on and off the court."
Now in her third year as a Firebirds Training Partner, Flegler continues to develop in the midcourt, and made her Suncorp Super Netball debut on Saturday in the 11-point win over the Swifts to become Firebird No.124.
The 20-year-old from Tully in Queensland's far north brings valuable international experience, having been part of Australia's gold medal-winning team at the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games, and was the MVP of last year’s HART Premier Netball League grand final for the Bond University Bull Sharks.
"Very grateful for the opportunity to lead a great group of girls alongside Gribs," Flegler said.
"It's my first time stepping into a role like this so I'm keen to rip in. I'm looking forward to having a good futures season with this team."
Gribble, who also recently made her Suncorp Super Netball debut against GIANTS Netball in Sydney to become Firebird No.122, has progressed impressively through the Queensland pathway and continues to excel at the elite level.
"I'm really excited for the season ahead,” she said.
“There's a lot of belief within the group and we've built great energy leading into the SN Reserves competition.
"It means a lot to be named co-captain. It's a responsibility I'm really proud to take on. I'm keen to help lead this group, build strong connections and see what we're capable of this season."
Completing the leadership trio is vice-captain Ridley, whose journey back to the court makes her appointment particularly meaningful. After making her Suncorp Super Netball debut in 2024 to become Firebird No.113, the midcourter spent 2025 recovering from a second ACL injury. Now back on court, her resilience and elite experience will prove invaluable in supporting the co-captains and mentoring the developing squad.
