The Queensland Firebirds’ run of games on their home court is set to continue following the announcement of fixtures for Rounds 7-9 of the 2020 Suncorp Super Netball season.
The League unveiled a further 3 Rounds worth of double header fixtures, with all 12 games to be played at the home of netball in Queensland, Nissan Arena.
Short turnarounds are also set to continue, with Rounds 7, 8 and 9 to be played between August 25th and September 2nd.
The Queensland Firebirds will technically be the visitors when they face GIANTS Netball in an away game in Round 7, before hosting the Adelaide Thunderbirds in Round 8 and West Coast Fever in Round 9.
Queensland Firebirds Head Coach Roselee Jencke OAM said she and her players welcomed the opportunity to play additional games in front of their fans.
“Our performances have been building game on game, particularly the momentum we’ve gathered in our past two matches, and the energy that our Purple Family brings in the stands has played a major role in our improvement,” Jencke said.
“As the only club in the competition still able to welcome all of our ticketed members to games, the privilege of playing in front of them is certainly not lost on the players.”
“We are also fortunate to call a world class indoor stadium like Nissan Arena our home and the unique opportunity to play this many games in an environment where we feel so comfortable is one we continue to relish.”
The Round 8 game against the Thunderbirds will also be the home side’s first Sunday fixture of the season, with Jencke describing it as a win for fans.
“A large number of our Purple Family are involved in their own netball on Saturdays and I know how hard the club has fought to get more Sunday placements, so we hope to see even more members in their colours when we face the Thunderbirds.”
To assist with managing the overall cost of delivering the season, Netball Australia has decided that all Round 7 matches and the first two matches of Round 9 will be conducted as closed events.
This means the Firebirds Round 7 clash against GIANTS netball will be played behind closed doors.
