Hosting their state rivals at Nissan Arena on Queensland Day, the Futures held an early lead but were unable to prevent the Lightning Bolts claiming a 57-47 win.
The defeat means the Futures head to this weekend's SN Reserves finals weekend in Sydney as the eighth seed, where they'll face the ACT, Tasmania and Northern Territory to wrap up their 2026 campaign.
Kaylin van Greunen scored 34 goals for the Futures as well as one Super Shot while Kirra Tappenden was also on form from range, hitting three two-pointers including back-to-back shots in the first quarter that were part of a 10-goal run by the Futures which enabled them to hold a three-goal lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Lightning Bolts hit the front before halftime in a low-scoring second term and despite the Futures coming within four goals at one stage in the second half, it wasn't to be as Sunshine Coast sealed a top-four spot with the win.
This year’s Super Netball Reserves competition will culminate in a Play-In Tournament and Finals Weekend hosted at Sydney’s Netball Central this weekend, in partnership with Destination NSW.
Tasmania, NT and ACT will compete in a Play-In Tournament (June 9-11) to determine their seedings for the Finals Weekend (June 12-14), where they’ll join all eight SN Reserves teams.
Every match will be livestreamed on KommunityTV and CODE Sports (subscription required).
