We’ve shown flashes of brilliance over the past few rounds, and again in last week’s game, proving that we can beat anybody in the league. But we need to ensure we do it for 60 minutes, and that’s been a focus for us this week. Our levels of intensity, purpose and clarity were amazing against the Lightning and that’s what we need to do going forward. We’ll be looking to make the most of the rushes of adrenaline when we do secure a turnover – by keeping balanced, calm and assessing all options on court. And, we’ll certainly be putting our foot down when we’ve claimed the lead.
It’s remarkable in the 2021 season that we can score 69 goals and still lose a game – I think it speaks to how fast the game is. Our defenders did a great job against the Fever and our work rate was pretty high especially against the Fever’s goal shooter who shot 60 of the team’s 79 goals.
This week the Swifts are also coming off a loss so, I expect they’ll be keen to try and consolidate their place in the top 4 and make amends in their attack end with some desperation netball. The Swifts are typically clinical and safe with the ball so, we’ll be out to play smart, keep them off the circle and, look at securing and making the most of any turnovers.
As we enter into the second round of the Suncorp Super Netball Season, I think we’ll see a few upsets as the weeks roll by. We’ll keep pushing for our goal of a top 4 finish.
I’d like to make a special mention to the Vixens and Magpies this week who have relocated to the Sunshine Coast to ensure the season can continue. It’s a big ask for players, support staff and their families. Thank you.
Don’ your purple and get ready for a sensational game – we’ll see our Sydney fans at the game at 3pm, Saturday 19 June 2021. Don’t forget you can also watch the Birdies on Channel 9 this week and the Netball Live App.
Game on!
