Firebirds legend, Laura Geitz was captain and driving force behind the Firebirds three premiership titles during her tenure in the purple dress.
Her international career included leading the Australian Diamonds to a Commonwealth Games gold medal and winning world championships in 2011 and 2015.
She also won two Commonwealth Games Silver medals, played 71 games for Australia and 169 games for the Firebirds.
The Queensland State Netball Centre was officially opened last Sunday by Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk.
The new centre will not only play home to the Firebirds, but to seven community courts, a high performance gymnasium and sports rehab facilities.
The Laura Geitz statue was created by sculptor Liam Hardy, who spent about 700 hours depicting her rising onto her toe tips, right arm stretched for a fingertip touch of the ball.
This weekends Suncorp #TeamGirls Cup will be the first major event at the new stadium.
All 8 SSN teams will compete in the pre-season tournament. Tickets available HERE
