Kamo realised her netball dream when she debuted for the Firebirds against Adelaide in the 2023 season opener at Nissan Arena.
Getting to don the purple dress had been a long-time coming for the 29-year-old, who spent time away from netball after coming through the Queensland pathways from 17U level to 21s before reviving her career with the ACU Brisbane North Cougars in the HART Sapphire Series.
Kamo would go on to appear in all 14 of the Firebirds’ games in 2023, reuniting a defensive pairing with Ruby Bakewell-Doran which had been forged at the Cougars.
Her debut season included several notable displays including a Player of the Match performance in the Round 11 win over Giants Netball in Sydney where she recorded nine gains, five intercepts, five deflections and two rebounds.
Kamo was equally impressive in the following week’s triumph over the Melbourne Vixens at Nissan Arena including eight deflections and six gains.
"Super excited to keep building with this team. We've still got a core group of us from last year and hopefully we can move our way up the ladder in 2024," Kamo said.
"I definitely feel more confident now that I've faced most of those big goal shooters so I'm excited to keep learning and keep working on the connection with Rubes."
Head Coach Bec Bulley said she was eager to watch Kamo hit the ground running in the 2024 season.
“Remi really found her feet at SSN level across 2023,” Bulley said.
“Some of her performances, particularly in the back half of the season against the world’s best shooters, showed that there’s no doubt Remi truly belongs at this level.
“I’m thrilled she’s on board for 2024 and know an even bigger year lies ahead for her and the Firebirds.”
