Defender Rudi Ellis has joined the Firebirds media team in an official part time role, as we look to give the Purple Family even greater insight into the person behind the player. Rudi shares this message about what she is looking forward to about her new role!
For someone who has never been the biggest fan of studying or in fact attending classes, I was pretty happy at the end of last year to be calling myself a university graduate in Professional Communications - Journalism. Although sometimes a struggle, juggling Uni load with netball commitments, I wouldn’t have had it any other way. It gave me the balance I needed away from the court as well as the opportunity to fulfil my passion for sports journalism.
Being a part of the Firebirds has been a dream come true, and now I’m fortunate enough to be working alongside the team behind the team, Netball Queensland’s media department. I admire the work that the media team do for our club, and I can’t wait to be the link between how we want to be represented as athletes as well as how we best connect our brand with our purple family.
With sports media experience working with the Melbourne Vixens & Western Bulldogs, I hope to bring a new perspective and help assist Netball Queensland’s quest in developing the relationship between the Firebirds and our supporters. I’m hoping to tell the stories of who we are as people as well as players, so that our purple family can get to know us on a more personal level.
I’m really excited for this opportunity with Netball Queensland and am grateful that the club is supporting me in my passions on and off the court. I’m looking forward to the season ahead!
