THE Queensland Firebirds are delighted to announce shooter Emily Moore has signed with the club as a permanent replacement player for the 2023 Suncorp Super Netball season.
The GIANTS Netball academy product, who has been with the Firebirds team throughout most of the pre-season, will fill the vacancy on the Firebirds’ contracted player list following Gretel Bueta’s exciting pregnancy news.
Moore, 25, moved north from Sydney late last year on an initial short-term deal and says it is thrilling for her to get a chance to prove herself at SSN level.
“Coming up to Brisbane and taking this opportunity with the Firebirds has reignited my love of netball,” Moore said.
“In Sydney I was working full-time. I would work from 8.30am to 5pm and then race to training until 9pm.
“Then go home, eat, sleep, wake up and repeat day after day.
“When you are doing so much it can get exhausting so being up here and being in an elite environment where I get to focus on netball is amazing.
“I’m just looking forward now to playing a role in what will hopefully be a successful 2023 campaign for the Firebirds.”
A key factor in Moore’s decision to pack up her life and head to Queensland was Firebirds Head Coach Bec Bulley – who she played under during her time in the GIANTS’ academy system.
“She’s the full package and I’m really excited to see what she can do at SSN level, as a head coach,” Moore said of Bulley.
Possessing the ability to score at the post or from distance with accurate shooting, Moore has impressed during pre-season matches, leading from the front with her vocal encouragement.
Bulley said what had been most impressive was Moore’s quick integration into the team following her move north.
“Emily has been one of the best performers in recent seasons in the NSW Premier League, including two championships with North Shore United, and has earned the chance to play in at Suncorp Super Netball level,” Bulley said.
“She’s a wonderfully consistent shooter but also a natural leader on court and a terrific teammate.
“I’m delighted, as are the whole squad, to have her join the Purple Family.”
Moore and her Firebirds teammates will continue their preparations for the 2023 Suncorp Super Netball season at the Suncorp Team Girls Cup on the Gold Coast from February 24-26.
