Unfortunately, both Jemma Mi Mi and Kimberley Jenner won’t travel with the team. Mi Mi sustained a leg injury following a collision at training last week, and Kimberley Jenner was a late withdrawal after rolling her ankle in the Firebirds final session before flying out to Melbourne.
Despite wanting to support the team in Bendigo, Firebirds Physical Performance Manager Callum Koch was confident that remaining in Brisbane would be more beneficial for both players recovery.
“Jemma and Kim will have the convenience of being close to our great rehabilitation team. Jemma will be able to continue the hard work she has been putting in to bounce back from this injury, while Kim will undergo precautionary rest and scans over the weekend.”
This injury is unrelated to the surgery Mi Mi had on ankle at the conclusion of the 2018 SSN Season.
Macy Gardner, Maddie Hinchliffe and Leah Middleton will travel with the team to Bendigo on Friday with the team playing two games over the weekend.
Gardner and Hinchliffe will give the team continuity, both receiving valuable court time as part of the Firebirds 11-woman squad that played the #TeamGirls Cup earlier this month.
Middleton will get the opportunity to pull on the purple dress for the first time after being signed as an extended squad member in 2019.
