A NEW-look Queensland Firebirds will take to the court on Friday eager to get an early read on their opposition for 2023 at the Suncorp Team Girls Cup.
Head Coach Bec Bulley has named a 12-player team for the Firebirds’ opener against the Adelaide Thunderbirds at the pre-season tournament on the Gold Coast which includes new faces such as Ash Unie and Remi Kamo.
Training partners Leesa Mi Mi and Isabelle Shearer have also been included in the team, as has new permanent replacement player Emily Moore.
“We’ve got a few new faces in our group,” Firebirds captain Kim Ravaillion said.
“They’re really putting their hand up to get on that court.”
Friday evening’s game against the Thunderbirds at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre at 7pm will be the final fixture of the opening night of the three-day tournament.
The Thunderbirds will have a new face themselves in English international Eleanor Cardwell while star defender Shamera Sterling’s clash with Firebird Donnell Wallam will be an eye-catching contest.
The Firebirds then face the GWS Giants and Melbourne Vixens on Saturday with a fourth and final match on Sunday against an opponent yet to be determined.
“We get to play against a few teams but we also get to scout and watch what other teams are putting out there,” Ravaillion said.
