The Queensland Firebirds are proud to welcome the Premier of Queensland and Minister for Trade, the Hon Annastacia Palaszczuk MP, as the Club’s Patron for the 2021 Suncorp Super Netball season.
An ardent supporter of Queensland’s most popular sport for women and girls, Ms Palaszczuk joins the Purple Family in a significant year for the Queensland Firebirds, as the Club celebrates its 25th season in national netball league history.
Queensland Firebirds CEO, Catherine Clark, welcomed the news and acknowledged the Premier’s significant support.
“The Premier has been a passionate supporter of netball for some time, particularly last year as she moved mountains to bring the world’s best league to our backyard here in Queensland,” Clark said.
“She’s also shown a significant commitment to the growth of the game at a grassroots level, as well as our Diamond Spirit program helping to improve the educational outcomes for more than 700 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls in Far North Queensland.”
“The Premier is a visible role model for all young women and a change agent for gender equality. You need only look as far as her Cabinet to see how the Premier has delivered real and meaningful change.”
“We are proud to now call her an official member of the Purple Family in her role as our Patron.”
Premier Palaszczuk said she was thrilled to be Patron of the Queensland Firebirds for their promising 2021 season.
“I have followed the Firebirds since their early days and have cheered on their many successes and felt their heartache at the losses alongside other devoted fans,” she said.
“I am honoured to be Patron of an organisation and team that has inspired many Queenslanders, and I look forward to cheering on the sidelines as Patron and passionate Firebird fan this season as the team aims for another championship title.”
The Queensland Firebirds open their 25th season with a State of Origin blockbuster clash against the NSW Swifts at Nissan Arena on Sunday May 2.
