THE Queensland Firebirds are thrilled to announce Rebecca Bulley as the club’s Head Coach for the 2023 Suncorp Super Netball season.
The four-year deal sees Bulley, a former Firebirds premiership player (2015) who made 42 appearances for the Australian Diamonds and won premierships for three different clubs, return to Queensland with an impressive coaching acumen featuring successful full-time coaching roles at both premier league and elite levels.
Her coaching experience includes time on the SSN sidelines, where she was most recently NSW Swifts Assistant Coach, including during the Swifts 2021 championship campaign.
“The Queensland Firebirds have such a proud history and are one of the most successful elite teams in Australian netball history,” Bulley said.
“I am genuinely very humbled to be offered the position of Head Coach of the Firebirds in 2023 and beyond.”
Bulley described her return to the Queensland Firebirds family as extremely special.
“I have very fond memories of my time as a Firebird back in 2015 when we won the ANZ Premiership and it is a great honour and privilege to be a part of this club again and to lead this team,” she said.
“I’m extremely excited to work with the current cohort of players and hope that we can continue to build on the foundations already laid to secure a finals berth and a fourth premiership for the club. There is some great experience and talent in the group, and I am really looking forward to working with them. I honestly can’t wait to get started.”
Netball Queensland CEO Kate Davies said Bulley was a standout during a stringent selection process, which involved identifying and interviewing several impressive candidates.
“Bec is highly relational, and a measured and confident communicator,” Davies said.
“Bec articulated a compelling coaching philosophy that we are confident will shape a successful high performance culture at our club. Bec will bring a strong sense of professionalism to our club, will enforce high performance standards, and is keen to embrace innovation.”
Relocating from New South Wales with her husband and two young children, Bulley will officially start with the Queensland Firebirds on Monday, August 22.
Netball Queensland will be advertising for a full-time Assistant Coach within the coming weeks.
