The Queensland Firebirds second outing of the 2020 Suncorp Super Netball season will be a special one for the home side, with Head Coach Roselee Jencke OAM set to celebrate a significant milestone.
The marquee match up against the Melbourne Vixens will be Jencke’s 150th game in charge of the Queensland Club, making her the second longest serving Head Coach in the history of the National League.
Now into her 11th season guiding the Firebirds Jencke possesses a remarkable strike rate, including three premierships and five Grand Final appearances.
Ahead of her 150th game at the helm, Jencke said she was thankful for all she had experienced in the role.
“Ours is a team sport where personal accolades rightly play second fiddle to the achievements of the group, but moments like this give you cause to reflect and be grateful,” Jencke said.
“I’ve been lucky to work with a group of incredible athletes and support staff who have always, and continue to, make this role a very rewarding experience.”
“We’ve ridden both highs and lows in the past ten years but if there’s been one constant it’s the support of our Purple Family, and I’m indebted to them for their passion and unwavering loyalty to our club.”
“While we’ve reached 150 games, I have no intention of slowing down, and am certainly excited by the potential of what this group can achieve, both this season and beyond”
Netball Queensland CEO Catherine Clark congratulated Jencke on her achievement and expressed her pride in the Head Coach.
“Rose enjoys one of the most decorated coaching resumes in netball but every ounce of that success has been earned through her commitment, resilience and ability to continue to grow as a leader.”
“Our club is fortunate to call Rose our Head Coach and I’m personally grateful to her for her friendship and support in our time together at the Queensland Firebirds.”
The Queensland Firebirds meet the Melbourne Vixens in Round 2 of Suncorp Super Netball this Saturday at Nissan Arena, with centre pass at 3:15pm.
