The Queensland Firebirds confirm the club has accepted a fine for a procedural breach of the Suncorp Super Netball League’s Competition Rules during the 2022 player signing period.
Netball Queensland and Queensland Firebirds CEO, Kate Davies, said the procedural breach was the club’s first and management moved quickly to put structures in place to prevent any further breaches occurring.
“Our intentions are to always operate with integrity by respecting the rules and processes in place,” Davies said.
The club was made aware of the breach following a review by the League Compliance Manager which determined the Firebirds breached the Competition Rules by including Additional Services Agreements as part of letters of offer to several players.
The Firebirds have received a $10,000 fine, with $5,000 suspended.
Executive General Manager – Commercial, Suncorp Super Netball and Events, Adam Richardson, said compliance of the Competition Rules was paramount to the integrity of the competition.
“The Competition Rules are the backbone of a fair and equitable competition, and this fine reflects our determination to protect the integrity of the Suncorp Super Netball League,” Richardson said.
“We acknowledge this was the Firebirds first breach and we thank them for their cooperation throughout the review.”
