The Queensland Firebirds are set to host several key clashes on their home court with the 2023 Suncorp Super Netball fixture released on Sunday.
The Firebirds will begin their campaign at Nissan Arena on March 19 against the Adelaide Thunderbirds.
That game will be new Head Coach Bec Bulley’s first Suncorp Super Netball fixture at the helm, against the team for whom she won a championship with as a player in 2013.
“I cannot wait to get out on our home court to begin a new era with the Queensland Firebirds,” Bulley said.
“Getting our season underway in front of our Purple Family gives us a tremendous opportunity to hit the ground running in 2023.
“It will also be a personal thrill to begin my head coaching career against the Thunderbirds, with whom I enjoyed great personal success as a player.”
The Firebirds will then host Queensland rivals Sunshine Coast Lightning in their round two fixture on March 25.
After trips to face the NSW Swifts and Collingwood in back-to-back weeks, the Firebirds will then return home to take on defending premiers West Coast Fever on April 16.
The following weekend, GWS Giants make the trip north for an ANZAC Day weekend clash at Nissan Arena on April 23.
Suncorp Super Netball’s first Inclusion Round will take place on May 6 and 7, with the Firebirds hosting the first match of the weekend against the Magpies.
The Firebirds will also host a home First Nations match against the Melbourne Vixens on June 4 while the visit of the Swifts the following weekend on June 11 comes during the height of interstate rivalries between NSW and Queensland amid rugby league’s State of Origin series.
“We will definitely see some big matches played on our home court,” Bulley said.
“I am hopeful this exciting schedule will inspire our loyal members and supporters to help us make Nissan Arena a fortress and give us the extra inspiration to make the season a memorable one.”
