The Queensland Firebirds have named Toowoomba-born Tippah Dwan as a squad member for the 2020 season and this young shooter has plenty of elite netball skills to offer her Firebirds teammates.
For one so young, Dwan has a lot of experience at the elite level of netball.
School years
In 2016, when she was in Year 11, she and younger sister Charlotte were part of the Sommerville House team that claimed the Queensland Girls’ Secondary Schools Sports Association (QGSSSA) premiership. But that was just the beginning of her rise to the elite level of netball. The following year, in 2017, as a Year 12 student, she was named a Queensland Firebirds training partner.
The next year she also captained the Queensland U19 team that travelled to Adelaide for the Netball Championships. It was clear that this young player had a lot to offer and she was just getting started in her netball career!
Firebirds training partner – and tragedy
From 2017 to 2018, Dwan spent two years as part of the wider Queensland Firebirds training partner squad before receiving the call-up she’d been waiting for in 2019, named to the Queensland Firebirds team.
Tragically, a pre-season training accident resulted in a broken foot and Dwan was unable to take the court in the Firebirds’ purple dress in 2019.
Rising star
In 2020 the Netball Queensland high performance panel included her in the Queensland Fusion, playing in the DUANL. Being part of the Fusion would give Dwan court time and an opportunity to sharpen her match skills. Also, being a Firebirds training partner would help her maintain SSN-level strength and conditioning. This would position her well to press for another Queensland Firebirds contract in future.
Dwan’s preferred position is Goal Attack, however, she also plays Goal Shooter.

This impressive young Queenslander enjoyed a nomadic childhood, growing up in Brisbane, Adelaide, Sydney, Shanghai and Singapore.
Tippah is an unusual name and she thinks her parents tapped the family’s Celtic/Irish heritage for her unique moniker.
