The Firebirds begin their season against the NSW Swifts at Ken Rosewall Arena on Saturday, 10 April, where Queensland’s new-look squad could come up against former Firebird Mary Cholhok in her first Super Netball match for the Swifts.
Just seven days later, the purple family will be back at Nissan Arena for the first home match of 2027 - a primetime Saturday-night Queensland derby against the Lightning on April 17.
That opening fortnight will provide an immediate test for a Firebirds squad featuring four new faces, including exciting young shooter Lily Graham, who arrives from the Melbourne Vixens, Australian Diamond and former Lightning star Cara Koenen, New Zealand international Kimiora Poi and South Australian product Tabitha Packer, a former Adelaide Thunderbirds training partner.
The opening derby is one of seven home matches at Nissan Arena as the world’s best netball league returns with new-look teams including the addition of the Sydney Sirens.
Among the early highlights is a Round Four meeting with Fever on Saturday, May 1, when former[JH1.1] Firebird Maddy Gordon could make her return to Nissan Arena in new colours during the Labour Day long weekend.
The Firebirds then host defending premiers the Thunderbirds on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 9, before travelling to Melbourne to face the Mavericks the following weekend.
First Nations Round will be staged across Rounds 8 and 13. Queensland will host the Sirens at Nissan Arena on Sunday, May 30, before travelling to Adelaide to meet the Thunderbirds on Sunday, July 4.
One of the most anticipated matches of the season arrives in Round 9, when the Firebirds head to the Sunshine Coast for the return Battle of the Bruce on Queensland Day - Sunday, June 6.
The Firebirds host the Swifts at Nissan Arena on Sunday, June 13, before closing their regular season with home matches against the Mavericks (June 26) and Vixens (July 10).
“The release of the 2027 fixture gives us a clear sense of the challenge ahead and there is so much for our players and supporters to look forward to,” Firebirds Head Coach Kiri Wills said.
“Starting on the road against the Swifts and then coming home for a Queensland derby will demand that we are ready from the first whistle. We know how much energy our purple family brings to Nissan Arena, and we cannot wait to share that first home night with them.
“There are storylines right through this draw - from welcoming new players into our group, to the two Queensland derbies and the opportunity to celebrate First Nations Round. Our focus will be on building across the season and making Nissan Arena a difficult place for every visiting team.”
