The 33-year-old, who was part of New Zealand’s 2019 World Cup triumph, joins the Firebirds from ANZ Premiership club the Tactix where she was a key part of their run to this year’s ANZ Premiership title success.
Having studied at the University of Otago in Dunedin, Selby-Rickit played for the Southern Steel from 2011 to 2019 before joining the Tactix ahead of the 2020 season and helped guide the club to their maiden ANZ Premiership last month with a 58-46 win over the Northern Mystics in the 2025 Grand Final.
Confident, experienced and able to play both shooting positions, Selby-Rickit combines accuracy with playmaking craft to provide a multiple threat for defences.
Standing 189cm, Selby-Rickit debuted for the Silver Ferns in 2016 and has a Commonwealth Games bronze medal to go with her World Cup gold, making 66 appearances for her country and was also part of New Zealand’s 2023 World Cup squad.
“I'm super excited to be joining the Queensland Firebirds and getting stuck into the 2026 SSN season,” Selby-Rickit said.
“It's a new challenge that I'm really looking forward to. New team, new environment, and a great opportunity to play against the best.
“I also want to take a moment to thank the Tactix for an incredible six years. I’m so grateful to the club, my teammates, and the fans for all the support and memories over the past six seasons.”
Head Coach Kiri Wills said Selby-Rickit’s experience and proven ability were huge assets to the Firebirds squad.
“She’s a constant threat in the circle who combines court-craft and shooting accuracy to be a playmaker and scorer,” Wills said.
“Te Paea is excited to show what she can do in SSN and I know the Purple Family will be eager to see what she can deliver on court.
“Te Paea completes a roster which will help us build on the foundations we established in 2025. I'm excited to get started with this group and seeing what we achieve in 2026.”
