The 20-year-old was a training partner with the Firebirds for 2023 as well as being part of the Firebirds Futures team which competed at the Australian Netball Championships in Morayfield in August.
Securing a fulltime SSN contract caps a rapid rise for the Rockhampton product, who moved from central Queensland to Brisbane to further her netball career.
Having been chosen as an injury replacement in both the 2022 Queensland 19 and Under and Queensland Sapphire teams, Shearer was signed as a training partner with the Firebirds in January following Ash Ervin’s move to the Sunshine Coast Lightning.
“I’m so excited to be given the opportunity to not only train beside, but now play alongside, women that I have idolised for so long,” Shearer said.
“I have been heavily involved in the Queensland pathways for much of my netball journey and am super grateful for what these programs have offered me.
“Looking forward to taking on this new level of netball, and can't wait to learn and grow as much as I can throughout the year.”
Firebirds Head Coach Bec Bulley said it was exciting to offer such a wonderful opportunity to a young Queensland pathways product.
“Isabelle is a homegrown product from a regional area of our state and it’s always exciting to offer an SSN contract to someone who has come through our pathways,” Bulley said.
“Since joining as a training partner Isabelle has shown an eagerness to improve her game and build her skills, she’s definitely earned this opportunity and I’m excited to see how she progresses over the next 12 months.”
