The Lorna Jane Queensland Firebirds are looking to transform their training and bring a new intensity to the 2019 SSN season.
The partnership will allow for Firebirds squad to supplement their current training schedule with cardio boxing and conditioning.
2018 saw the continual increase in physicality and intensity from athletes in the Suncorp Super Netball, and the Firebirds hope to use unique approaches to training in order to gain an edge going into the season.
Brisbane Boxing owners’, brothers, Kam and Khuram, hope to help the Firebirds develop muscle, increase endurance and strengthen the whole body.
“We are so excited about this partnership, the Firebirds have a great attitude towards training and it’s a really exciting time with their big move to the Queensland State Netball Centre,” Khuram said.
“Our values are aligned in terms of inclusivity and empowerment. Every person that steps into our gyms, we want to feel part of our community, and we know that Netball Queensland and the Queensland Firebirds promote that in their Queensland netball community.”
“Whether you’re an elite athlete, or have never stepped into a gym, we welcome all fitness and skill levels,” he said.
Brisbane Boxing is conveniently located on Kessels road within walking distance to the Firebirds new home, the Queensland State Netball Centre. The QSNC will be an all-encompassing space for the Firebirds with a sports medicine and rehabilitation facility and high-performance gymnasium.
With the countdown on for the upcoming Suncorp #TeamGirls Cup in March Firebirds Captain Gabi Simpson enjoyed that change of scenery swapping the court for the ring.
“It’s a long pre-season, so getting the opportunity to put the gloves on and do some different training, is good for the body as well as the mind.” Simpson said.
The Firebirds will move into the $44m Queensland State Netball Centre on 18 February and host the inaugural Suncorp #TeamGirls Cup from 8-10 March. Tickets available here.
