What a week it has been!
A game Sunday, game Tuesday in Sydney and now back to Brisbane for another game this Sunday when we host the Adelaide Thunderbirds at Nissan Arena.
To be sitting in the top four is a good reflection of how we’ve started the season, but it is so early we are just concentrating on each game and week at a time.
I think already the season has thrown up lots of unknowns in terms of dealing with COVID, adjusting to not having Romelda play and double rounds, but the players have had such a great positive mindset.
They’ve really been ready and willing to get out and do whatever it takes to create a new blueprint for this team and have just taken everything in their stride.
I really admire them all for this.
Now I am just expecting a build from here from all the players, there’s so many good signs but also lots to work on which is exciting.
It’s a great opportunity for us to create our own legacy for the club.
The T’Birds are always a physical team and there’s no easy passage down the court. They have firepower in each area on the court and have had their best start to a season. They will be full of confidence.
Last week against the Fever we had former Firebird Rudi Ellis and this week we go up against another former Firebird in Tippah Dwan.
It’s just part of business, but it’s a little strange to see them in different colours.
All the players are still great friends with them and it’s just good to see them have opportunities at this level, if it can’t be with us we love seeing them out on court somewhere else.
Adding to the excitement of this weekend’s game is that it is Easter, such a special time of year for many reasons.
My kids love the chocolate part! Being a netballer and now a coach, we don’t usually get to take advantage of the long weekend, so I guess eating the chocolate and spending time with family is the next best thing.
Family is an important value of our club, and we love having home games so we can connect with them. All the kids love hanging out together too which is great.
We can’t wait to see our wider Purple Family at the game on Sunday to celebrate Easter and hopefully another win for the Firebirds.
Go Birdies!
