Burns was named Players’ Player at the gala function held at Hilton Brisbane last Saturday while Meafou claimed the Firebirds Futures MVP award.
Meafou featured at both goal shooter and goal attack during August’s Australian Netball Championships for the Firebirds Futures in Morayfield, showing versatility and leadership across the wek.
“Abigail was a standout across the week with her creative play and strong leadership a key factor in the success of our attack end,” Firebirds Futures coach Jessica Whitfort said.
“In GA Abi dominated the competition in second-phase centre pass receives and feeds to goal showing her incredible work rate and the way she brought her teammates into the game.
“Similarly at goal shooter Abi was an unbeatable force shooting at 91 per cent and providing an exceptional target for our mid court.”
Whitfort was also unsurprised that Burns was recognised by her peers for her award.
“Rylee’s humble attitude and ability to shoot at range under pressure earned the accolades of her teammates,” she said.
“But it was her off-court energy and team-first mindset that really shone through, earning her teammates trust and bringing plenty of laughs during recovery.”
