The Queensland Firebirds can confirm we will be remaining in Brisbane following the Suncorp Super Netball league’s decision to relocate five clubs to the Queensland capital.
In a statement on Tuesday night the league confirmed the move on the back of Adelaide entering a seven-day lockdown, which would prevent clubs from playing and training.
The five teams that flew out from Adelaide to Brisbane on Tuesday night included Adelaide Thunderbirds, Melbourne Vixens, Collingwood Magpies and the NSW Swifts.
West Coast Fever will make the flight to Brisbane on Wednesday.
However, the league has confirmed the GIANTS Netball’s players, coaches and staff remain in Adelaide after being linked to exposure sites in Melbourne.
It was also stated that the Swifts have travelled without coach Briony Akle and their team physio, who are also isolating in Adelaide after being identified as close contacts of patrons who attended a Tier 1 exposure site.
The league is working through the fixture for the final three rounds and will provide an update as soon as possible.
“We know how volatile the pandemic is in the community and we are doing everything we can to complete the Suncorp Super Netball season,” said Netball Australia CEO Kelly Ryan.
“I’d like to thank all our stakeholders – our clubs, sponsors, broadcasters, umpires, staff and fans who continue to support our competition.”
The Queensland Firebirds will continue to work with the league and will provide further updates when available.
