Queensland Firebirds Head Coach Roselee Jencke OAM has agreed to an extension of her contract with the club, which will see her mentor the team through until at least the end of the 2021 season.
The news comes just over a week out from the opening round of the 2020 Suncorp Super Netball campaign – Jenckes’s 11th season at the helm.
The three-time Premiership winner said she was fiercely motivated by the opportunity for a 12th year as coach.
“I’m grateful for the vote of confidence from the Netball Queensland Board in our vision and excited by the potential these next two seasons hold for this team,” Jencke said.
“This group has great foundations and are all working harder than they ever have before and I am absolutely determined to take them to the next level I know they are capable of.”
“Most importantly, I want to deliver for our loyal members and supporters the types of performances they’ve come to expect from their Firebirds and that make them proud to say they are part of our purple family.”
“This is the best competition in the world - so if we are going to be competitive, if we are going to be a force to be reckoned with, then we need to go where we haven’t been before and that is a journey I want to take with this team.”
Netball Queensland CEO Catherine Clark said Jencke’s experience was an invaluable asset, for both the players and the club more broadly, in the current environment.
“We are on the eve of a netball season unlike any other and we are fortunate to be able to draw upon Rose’s knowledge, experience and steady hand in such an uncertain time,” Clark said.
“Her longevity and success are testament to her resilience in challenging times, as well as her ability to evolve as a leader, and I know our club is best served with Rose as our Head Coach.”
